XAUm Unlocks Multi-Chain Gold Ownership with Chainlink CCIP

As real-world assets (RWAs) continue to gain traction on-chain, institutional investors are demanding infrastructure that ensures both security and interoperability. Matrixdock has integrated Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) into its XAUm infrastructure, unlocking native minting and redemption of fully reserved gold tokens across multiple blockchains. This strategic upgrade harnesses the most trusted cross-chain messaging protocol in the industry to deliver institutional-grade security, efficiency, and scalability. It enhances the XAUm user experience by increasing cross-chain accessibility and ultimately improving asset efficiency in the tokenized gold market.

What is XAUm?

XAUm, an ERC-20 token fully backed by physical gold, offers investors a trusted and transparent digital asset tied to gold accredited by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA). The gold reserves backing XAUm are stored in high-security Malca-Amit and Brink’s vaults in Singapore and Hong Kong, ensuring the integrity of the token. By combining gold’s intrinsic value with tokenization technology, XAUm enhances the accessibility and revenue-generating potential of gold investments.

Native Multi-Chain Mint & Redeem—Powered by Chainlink CCIP

To maximize usability and reduce gas costs, XAUm is designed as a multi-chain gold token, allowing users to mint on their preferred blockchain and redeem on another, without compromising token supply integrity. This cross-chain functionality is powered by Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), which enables secure and verifiable communication between blockchains.

Think of CCIP as SWIFT for blockchains—but instead of sending payment instructions between banks, it transmits secure data and asset movement messages across blockchain networks. While SWIFT connects traditional financial institutions globally, CCIP connects blockchains, enabling tokenized assets like gold to move seamlessly across digital asset ecosystems. CCIP supports new levels of automation, settlement efficiency, and risk control by synchronizing XAUm minting budgets and token flows, ensuring XAUm’s 1:1 backing with physical gold is upheld across all supported chains.

Token Supply Design: Global and Local Mint Budgets

XAUm’s Mint Budget system ensures that every token remains fully backed by physical gold while supporting flexible minting and redemption capabilities across multiple blockchains. This is achieved through a two-tiered mint control system:

  • Global Mint Budget – Represents total mintable supply based on physically verified gold reserves.

  • Local Mint Budget – Allocates a portion of the global budget to each supported blockchain.

When minting demand shifts between chains, Matrixdock dynamically reallocates supply capacity using CCIP. For example, if large redemptions on the Ethereum Chain increase available budget, and new demand arises on BNB chain, Chainlink CCIP securely reassigns the unused capacity via a CCSendMintBudget message, ensuring the minting remains tightly tied to real-world gold holdings.

No Bridges Needed: Secure Cross-Chain Transfers

To transfer XAUm between chains, users simply initiate a cross-chain transfer. Under the hood, Matrixdock uses CCIP to coordinate token movement via CCSendToken and CCReceive messages, executing a secure burn-and-mint mechanism.

This architecture eliminates the need for custom bridges, mitigating security risks and liquidity fragmentation, enabling secure and smooth cross-chain movement.

Chainlink XAU/USD Oracle

In addition to CCIP, Matrixdock integrates Chainlink’s decentralized XAU/USD Price Feed to anchor XAUm’s market value across lending platforms. This tamper-resistant and highly reliable oracle is trusted by leading DeFi protocols, enabling XAUm to serve as high-quality collateral on platforms such as Curve, Kinza, Avalon, and Morpho. Through continuous price synchronization with the physical gold market, XAUm delivers capital efficiency and yield potential, bridging gold’s stability with the interoperability of on-chain finance.

The Future: Tokenized Gold in Trusted Networks

With the integration of Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), XAUm introduces the industry's most trusted multi-chain risk mitigation solution by eliminating reliance on fragmented bridges and manual reconciliation processes.

Supported by Chainlink’s robust infrastructure, XAUm embodies the convergence of the intrinsic value of gold and blockchain-native agility. Together with partners like Chainlink, we are building the foundational infrastructure for a modernized capital market, where real-world assets like gold can move with the speed, transparency, and interoperability that the future of finance demands.
